What home care costs per hour in Arizona
The national median cost of home care is around $30 per hour. Arizona tends to run slightly below that for standard non-medical support and above it for specialized care or overnight coverage. Rates vary by agency, location within the state, shift length, and the complexity of care.
What drives the price up
Five things raise the hourly rate: shorter shifts (most agencies have a minimum shift length), overnight or 24-hour coverage, specialized support for dementia or mobility needs, weekends and holidays, and last-minute scheduling. Booking predictable recurring shifts is almost always cheaper than on-demand coverage.
What a week of care typically costs
A common Wellby shift is 4 hours a day, 5 days a week. At around $30 an hour that is roughly $600 a week, or about $2,400 a month. Families who need 12-hour or 24-hour coverage are looking at significantly more.
How Arizona families pay for home care
Most Wellby care is paid privately. Some families use long-term care insurance policies, which typically cover non-medical home care after an elimination period. Arizona Long Term Care System (ALTCS), part of AHCCCS, may cover home care for qualifying low-income seniors who meet both medical and financial criteria. Veterans and their surviving spouses may qualify for the VA Aid and Attendance benefit, which can offset home care costs.
What to ask before you sign anything
Ask about shift minimums, cancellation windows, holiday and overnight rates, how replacement caregivers are handled when yours is sick, and whether the agency carries workers compensation and general liability insurance. Wellby caregivers are W-2 employees, so workers comp and liability are ours, not yours.
Common questions
Medicare generally does not cover non-medical home care. It may cover home health, which is medical care delivered at home by licensed nurses or therapists, for a limited time after a qualifying event.
Arizona Long Term Care System is part of AHCCCS, the state Medicaid program. It may cover home care for seniors who meet both medical need and financial eligibility criteria. Wellby does not currently accept ALTCS. If cost is a concern, we recommend speaking with an ALTCS eligibility specialist before starting private-pay care.
Yes. Most Wellby engagements start at a four-hour minimum. Shorter one-off visits are possible in some situations. The best way to find out what fits your family is to request a free consultation.
