What Wellby charges, exactly
We publish our rates, which is still unusual in home care. Companion Care starts at $40 per hour: conversation, meals, errands, light housekeeping. Personal Care starts at $45 per hour and adds hands-on help with bathing, dressing, and mobility. Specialized Care starts at $50 per hour for dementia support, post-hospital recovery, and fall-risk clients, with caregivers who carry deeper training.

How that compares to the rest of the market
Industry surveys put the national median for non-medical home care around $30 per hour, and Phoenix-area quotes can land anywhere from the high twenties to the mid fifties. A quote that looks cheap usually has a reason: contractor labor instead of employees, no workers compensation, thin screening, or minimums and weekend surcharges that show up after you sign. When you compare agencies, compare the loaded number: the rate you will actually pay for the schedule you actually need.
What a week and a month actually cost
Here are three real schedules priced at our published from-rates. Monthly figures use the same math as our care plan builder: weekly cost times 4.33, rounded to the nearest hundred.
Bigger schedules earn automatic volume discounts: 3% off at 20 hours a week, 5% at 40 hours, and 7% at 80 hours. The builder applies them for you.

What moves the price up or down
Upward pressure comes from shorter shifts (our engagements generally start at a four-hour minimum), overnight coverage, specialized care needs, and last-minute scheduling. Downward pressure comes from predictable recurring schedules and the volume discounts above. Booking a steady weekly schedule is almost always cheaper than on-demand coverage.
Why our rates look the way they do
Every Wellby caregiver is a W-2 employee, not a contractor. We carry workers compensation and general liability insurance, and we pay for each caregiver's Arizona Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card, national background and drug screening, TB screening, and in-person CPR and First Aid certification with tracked renewals. Agencies that quote far below market are usually skipping one of those line items, and the savings move the risk into your home.
How Arizona families pay for home care
Most Wellby care is paid privately. Some families use long-term care insurance policies, which typically cover non-medical home care after an elimination period. Arizona Long Term Care System (ALTCS), part of AHCCCS, may cover home care for qualifying low-income seniors who meet both medical and financial criteria. Veterans and their surviving spouses may qualify for the VA Aid and Attendance benefit, which can offset home care costs.
What to ask before you sign anything
Ask about shift minimums, cancellation windows, holiday and overnight rates, how replacement caregivers are handled when yours is sick, and whether the agency carries workers compensation and general liability insurance. Wellby caregivers are W-2 employees, so workers comp and liability are ours, not yours.
Common questions
Medicare generally does not cover non-medical home care. It may cover home health, which is medical care delivered at home by licensed nurses or therapists, for a limited time after a qualifying event.
Arizona Long Term Care System is part of AHCCCS, the state Medicaid program. It may cover home care for seniors who meet both medical need and financial eligibility criteria. Wellby does not currently accept ALTCS. If cost is a concern, we recommend speaking with an ALTCS eligibility specialist before starting private-pay care.
